Big See Interior Design Award 2024

History revived - my interior design project in the center of Vienna is a jewel from 1870.

The challenge? To create a style that reflects my clients' modern tastes while harmonizing with the historic charm of this building. A play with shapes and colors from different decades to create a unique atmosphere.

Every detail has been carefully chosen to create both harmony and tension in the interaction of all elements.

Reviving History:

A Modern Interpretation of a 19th-Century Jewel in Vienna

Introduction: Nestled in the heart of Vienna, a historic gem from 1870 stands as a testament to the city's rich architectural heritage. This project, undertaken solely by myself, is an exploration of how to seamlessly blend modern tastes with the timeless charm of this magnificent building. Through meticulous attention to detail and a deep respect for history, I aimed to create an interior design that not only honors the past but also reflects the unique personality of my client.

The Historic Context:

The building itself is a jewel of Viennese architecture, boasting intricate facades, ornate moldings, and grandeur reminiscent of the 19th century. To embark on this project was to embark on a journey back in time, immersing myself in the aesthetics and sensibilities of the late 1800s. Through extensive research into Vienna's cultural history, I gained a profound appreciation for the architectural styles and design movements that characterizes the era.

Modern Interpretation:

While the building's historic significance was undeniable, it was equally important to infuse the space with a sense of modernity that resonated with my client's tastes. This required a delicate balance between preserving the integrity of the past and embracing the innovations of the present. I approached the project with a keen eye for juxtaposition, seeking to create harmony and tension through the interaction of contrasting elements.

Color Palette:

Drawing inspiration from the opulent hues of the late 19th century, I curated a color palette that exuded richness and sophistication. Deep jewel tones, such as emerald green, sapphire blue, and pink, formed the foundation of the design, evoking a sense of luxury and grandeur. These timeless shades were complemented by modern accents in muted neutrals and bold pops of color, creating a dynamic interplay of light and shadow throughout the space.

Furniture and Furnishings:

To furnish the space, I curated a collection of iconic pieces from different decades, each chosen for its unique blend of form and function. Vintage-inspired furniture, such as the Vuelta Sofa and velvet armchairs, provided a nod to the past, while custom-designed pieces added a contemporary twist. Mixing and matching styles and textures created an eclectic yet cohesive aesthetic that celebrated both the old and the new.

Fabrics: Texture and Captivating Carpets

In the world of fabrics, this project diverges from conventional patterns, opting for a serene yet captivating atmosphere achieved through texture. Each fabric choice, from sumptuous velvet to rugged leather and linen, is meticulously curated to evoke understated luxury and tactile richness. Intriguing carpets further enhance the sensory experience, adding visual interest and a soft underfoot sensation. This emphasis on texture creates a dynamic visual interest, enriching the overall design narrative with every touchpoint.

In reviving this historic jewel in the heart of Vienna, my goal was to create more than just a beautiful space - I aimed to create an experience that transcended time. By blending modern tastes with the timeless charm of the late 19th century, I was able to breathe new life into this historic building, transforming it into a vibrant and dynamic space that celebrates the past while embracing the future.

I am absolutely delighted by the wonderful collaboration with my clients and the trust they have placed in me, as we've embarked on an extraordinary journey together to bring their residential dreams to life.
